Softwood, hardwood or composite: the right decking for your Castor garden depends on the look you want, your budget and how much upkeep you are happy with. Driveway & Decking Co. install all three across Castor and the rest of Cambridgeshire, and we help you weigh up the options before a single board is cut.
How we install decking in Castor
The first decision is the material. Softwood is affordable and versatile, treated for a long life. Hardwood brings rich, natural tones with premium strength and durability. Composite is low-maintenance and slip-resistant, and comes in a range of colours. We talk you through each one so you land on the deck that suits your home and budget.
Longevity comes down to material and care. With proper upkeep softwood decking lasts around 10 to 15 years, hardwood 20 years or more, and composite 25 years or more. Low-maintenance finishes are available on request, easy to clean and designed to keep your deck looking its best for as long as possible.
Signs you might need Decking in Castor
- You are choosing between the low upkeep of composite and the character of natural timber.
- You want to build in features like seating, planters, lighting or steps rather than bolt them on later.
- You need a deck that stands up to the UK climate without warping, rotting or fading over time.
- You are refreshing your Castor home or garden and want an outdoor room that adds real, lasting appeal.
- You want somewhere level and practical to relax, entertain or dine outdoors through the warmer months.
It all starts with a free consultation and a clear, written quotation, so you know exactly what your Castor deck will involve before any work begins. Contact Driveway & Decking Co. to book yours.

Cannot recommend these guys enough. James, Ross, George and John all done an amazing job transforming my driveway and patio. Professional from the outset with a final finish that impresses everyone that sees it, that will last years to come!
We had our driveway done this year and they did a fantastic job. I'm really happy with the outcome. I would recommend this company.
Had these guys do my garden from a recommendation. They have done a fantastic job . My garden now looks amazing. Anyone who's thinking of having a garden makeover or a new drive I highly recommend this company. 10/10
Fantastic team, professional but friendly. They have done a brilliant job on our front drive a few years ago and this year on our back garden, with new decking, imprinted concrete patio and pathway and finished off with a gravel area and turf. They did the whole job from start, clearing the area, working through bad weather where they could and only the recent snow held the job up and only by a couple of days! Definitely recommend 100%. Thanks guys!
Very pleased with our driveway which was completed in January. Communication before the job was great and the work was carried out efficiently and to a high standard. Would definitely recommend them for anyone looking to get imprinted concrete work done.
They did a brilliant job on our garden, good value and a great finish. Highly recommend :)

Frequently Asked Questions
- It starts with a free consultation and site visit. We look at your Castor garden, discuss materials and design, then provide a clear written quotation with no obligation. Call or message Driveway & Decking Co. to book yours.
- Yes. Composite is the most low-maintenance option, resisting fading, rot and warping and needing little more than a clean. If you would rather enjoy your Castor deck than spend time treating it, composite is well worth considering.
- We install softwood, hardwood and composite decking. Softwood is affordable and versatile, hardwood offers rich tones with premium strength, and composite is low-maintenance and slip-resistant in a choice of colours. We help you pick the right one for your Castor garden.
- Yes. Finance options are available on decking, so you can spread the cost rather than pay it all up front. Our Castor team will help you find a material, a design and a plan that suits your budget.
- Yes. Raised and multi-level decking is one of our specialities, ideal for sloping or uneven Castor gardens and for making the most of a view. We build a sound frame and supports so the finished deck is level, stable and safe underfoot.
- For many Castor homeowners, yes. Composite costs more up front but is low-maintenance and resists fading, rot and warping, and it lasts 25 years or more with proper care. If you want to spend time on the deck rather than maintaining it, it is well worth considering.
- Yes. We can build in planters, seating, lighting, steps and balustrades, designing them into the deck from the start. That gives your Castor deck a finished, considered look where everything works together rather than being bolted on later.
- Absolutely. We can integrate planters, seating, lighting, steps and balustrades into your design from the start. Building features in rather than adding them later gives your Castor deck a considered, finished look and makes the whole space work together.
- Yes. We design raised and multi-level decking to suit uneven or sloping gardens, working with the lie of the land to create a level, usable surface. It is one of the best ways to reclaim an awkward Castor garden.
- It depends on what you want. Timber offers natural beauty and warmth, while composite is more low-maintenance and resistant to fading, rot and warping. We help you weigh both up at your free Castor consultation so the choice suits your garden and budget.
